Salma Hayek's big Hollywood breakthrough came from Robert Rodriguez's Desperado. Her rise to fame thanks to Frida which was that was nominated for the Academy Award. Hayek is also involved in the world of television, notably as the executive producer of Ugly Betty. Salma Hayek Jimenez is the daughter of Spanish parents and is a Lebanese father. She was born on September 2, 1966, in Coatzacoalcos Veracruz Mexico. Hayek was born into a Catholic family, went to Louisiana's convent at 12 years old. She spent the rest of her teenage time in Houston, Texas with her aunt. Following a brief time at a university in Mexico City, she dropped off to pursue a job in acting. She eventually went on to become a telenovela star in her native Mexico.
